Set in the suburban shadows of New York City as the 1980s crash into the ‘90s, The Punk and the Professor brings us into the troubled world of a young introvert. Jack Tortis is an underdog branded as a punk in a place where sameness is celebrated. Destined to be a drop out laborer like his estranged father, he clings to hope and fights against a tide of dysfunction. But just as life starts to move along, obstacles spring up around him. In his way are apathetic teachers and principals, an abusive stepfather, and the drugs, ignorance, and violence that plague his town. In a battle for survival, Jack is faced with three options—fight his way through school, be lucky enough to enter the world of service labor, or fall into a street life of crime and drugs.
Where we end up in life is often too predictable—but sometimes an opportunity comes along that changes our fate, and sometimes it takes starting all over again to get it right. The story of the punk is framed by a professor reciting an ancient tale that inspires us to question all we think we know, to consider an alternative truth, and distinguish reality from illusion.

The Professor is Charlotte Brontes first novel, in which she audaciously inhabits the voice and consciousness of a man, William Crimsworth. Like Jane Eyre he is parentless; like Lucy Snowe in Villette he leaves the certainties of England to forge a life in Brussels. But as a man, William has freedom of action, and as a writer Bronte is correspondingly liberated, exploring the relationship between power and sexual desire.

"Amfiibinimese" autori lugu noorest arstist Marie Laurentist, kes votab vastu too professor Kerni juures ja avastab siis, et too uurib, kuidas sailitada elu kehast eraldatud peades. Professor Kern sailitab ka oma opetaja ja mentori, geniaalse professor Dowelli pead salaja oma laboratooriumis, sundides seda enda heaks teadustoid tegema. Kehast eraldi elava pea motiiv pole kull Beljajevi valja moeldud, kuid ta teadis ilmselt suureparaselt, mida voiks tunda kehast eraldi elav pea – kirjanik oli ise aastaid halvatuna voodisse aheldatud. Nii «Amfiibinimesest» kui «Professor Dowelli peast» on tehtud peaaegu sama kuulsad filmiversioonid.

Raamat on puhendatud valjapaistvale kirurgiaprofessorile Ants Rullile (1908-1986). Pohiosa raamatust moodustavad tema malestused uliopilaspolvest ja oppejou ajast Tartu Riiklikus Ulikoolis. Lisaks meenutavad Ants Rullit lahimad kaastootajad: prof Ants Peetsalu, Lembit Veeber, dotsent Jaan Heljut Seeder, professor Juri Manniste ja Enn Puttsepp.

Kaesolev raamat on puhendatud kauaaegsele sisehaiguste professorile Kuno Korge malestusele, kes oli oma elu puhendanud patsientide ravile ja noorte kolleegide opetamisele. Professor Korge oli labi kogu oma elu kandnud kolme aadet: arstikunsti, meie oma ulikooli professori ja isamaali­suse oma ja innustanud sellega koiki oma kaastootajaid ja tudengeid. Temast raagivad kolleegid endisest Toome sisekliinikust ja lahedased. Raamat annab ka ulevaate meditsiinist ja muust elust sojajargsest ajast kuni 20. Sajandi 80nendate aastateni.
