Von 1987 bis 2006 war er Professor fur Anorganische und Analytische Chemie an der TU Clausthal. Georg Schwedt entwickelte das Mitmachlabor SuperLab und ist mit seinen zahlreichen Experimentalvortragen zur Chemie von Supermarktprodukten, historischer Chemie und weiteren Themen bundesweit bekannt.
