The Art of Constructive Confrontation. How to Achieve More Accountability with Less Conflict
Автор: John Hoover
Год издания:
Praise for The Art of Constructive Confrontation «There's no magic formula for building a successful enterprise, large or small. If you're in the business of making a profit, you're in the business of building people. First you build your people. After that, your people produce the profit. The Art of Constructive Confrontation is an easy-to-follow, systematic process that makes sure you don't get those things backwards. Constructive confrontation is the closest thing you'll ever find to hold people accountable for what they do, while at the same time reducing the conflicts that get in the way of productivity and, ultimately, profits.» –Spencer Hays, founder, The Tom James Company Executive Chairman, Southwestern/Great American, Inc. «The Art of Constructive Confrontation is a clear and concise road map to making the all-important conversations between team leaders and team members happen. More than that, the constructive confrontation process keeps those conversations happening, keeps them consistent and constructive, keeps everybody accountable, and unleashes the leadership potential in everyone.» –Angelo Valenti, PhD, leader of The Company Psychologist and coauthor, Unleashing Leadership «Embracing constructive confrontation builds a strong, effective leader with a strong, effective team. This book covers the step-by-step process to make you that kind of leader.» –Danny Cox, coauthor, Leadership When the Heat's On

Praise for Working with Female Offenders «Encyclopedic in scope and full of very relevant work drawn from the fields of biology, psychology, criminology, and corrections, this book is a must-read for those working with girl and women offenders.» —Meda Chesney-Lind, Professor, Women's Studies University of Hawaii at Manoa «In this timely and thoughtful book, van Wormer provides a gender-sensitive lens through which the reader can examine pathways to female criminality, a global perspective on female crime and punishment, and innovative treatment approaches. This book is a must-have for any student or professional who wishes to truly impact and empower the lives of female offenders.» —David W. Springer, Associate Dean for Academic Affairs, School of Social Work The University of Texas at Austin «This book is timely in light of promising developments that are taking place at every level of the criminal justice system. It is a must-read for policymakers, practitioners, academics, and students in criminal justice, social work, and other related fields.» —Barbara E. Bloom, Professor, Criminology and Criminal Justice Studies Sonoma State University, California The first book to combine elements from the social work, counseling, and criminology fields to create a framework tailored to working with female offenders Taking into account the special needs of girls and women within a system designed by men for male offenders, Working with Female Offenders offers counselors, correctional officers, lawyers, probation officers—in short, anyone who works in some capacity with female offenders–an evidence-based, gentler approach for working effectively and successfully with girls and women in trouble with the law. Working with Female Offenders provides coverage devoted to the nature of female crime and to the institutional settings in which much of the female-specific programming is designed to take place. This timely volume equips professionals with proven counseling strategies tailored to fit this population. Practical guidelines are included for case management interventions, teaching skills of communication and assertiveness, and anger and stress management for female offender populations, as well as: A strengths/empowerment/restorative framework for counseling women in crisis Narratives from personal interviews with female offenders and correctional counselors Discussion of controversial topics such as prison homosexuality, AIDS in prison, girls in gangs, and women on death row Examples of successful, innovative programs for female offenders from the United States and abroad Working with Female Offenders addresses the unique challenges of female offenders and those who treat them, and provides a much needed addition to the literature on innovative programming for female offenders.
Pediatric Robotic and Reconstructive Urology. A Comprehensive Guide
Автор: Mohan Gundeti S.
Год издания:
Robotic urological surgery is one of the most significant urological developments in recent years. It allows for greater precision than laparoscopic methods while retaining quicker recovery time and reduced morbidity over classical open surgical techniques. For children, where the room for error is already reduced because of smaller anatomy, it takes on even more importance for urologists. As a result, robotic surgery is rightly considered one of the most exciting contemporary developments in pediatric urology. Pediatric Robotic and Reconstructive Urology: A Comprehensive Guide provides specialist and trainees with an innovative text and video guide to this dynamic area, in order to aid mastery of robotic approaches and improve the care of pediatric patients. Full-color throughout and including over 130 color images, this comprehensive guide covers key areas including: Training, instrumentation and physiology of robotic urologic surgery Surgical planning and techniques involved Adult reconstructive principles applicable to pediatrics Management of complications, outcomes and future perspectives for pediatric urologic surgery Also included are 30 high-quality surgical videos illustrating robotic surgery in action, accessed via a companion website, thus providing the perfect visual tool for the user. With chapters authored by the leading names in the field, and expertly edited by Mohan Gundeti, this ground-breaking book is essential reading for all pediatric urologists, pediatric surgeons and general urologists, whether experienced or in training. Constructive Dialogue Modelling. Speech Interaction and Rational Agents
Автор: Kristiina Jokinen
Год издания:
Dialogue management technology has developed rapidly over the years resulting in real-time applications like telephony directories, timetable enquiries, and in-car applications. However, the current technology is still largely based on models that use rigid command language type interactions, and the users need to adapt their human communication strategies to the needs of the technology. As an increasing number of interactive ubiquitous applications will appear, challenges for interaction technology concern especially natural, more human-friendly communication. Recent research has focused on developing speech-based interactive systems that aim to increase the system’s communicative competence. By including aspects of interaction beyond simple speech recognition and question-answer based interaction, applications with more conversational interfaces have become possible. New dialogue management technology needs to address the challenges in human-technology interaction, so that smart environments should not only enable user-controlled command interfaces but equip applications with a capability that affords easy and friendly interactions with the user. Dialogue Modelling: Speech Interaction and Rational Agents provides an overview of the current dialogue technology and research trends in spoken dialogue systems, presenting a coherent perspective of AI-based cooperative interaction management. The book complements existing research regarding human-computer interfaces, speech and language technology, and communication studies in general, bringing different view-points together and integrating them into a single point of reference. Constructive Dialogue Modelling: Presents a guide to spoken dialogue technology and current research trends. Provides an overview of human factors in dialogue systems and delivers a new metaphor for human-computer interaction and computer as agent. Explains the architecture of dialogue systems using examples from systems such as Interact and DUMAS Offers a comprehensive overview of original research into the new trends in speech dialogue technology in light of innovations such as ubiquitous computing. This book will provide essential reading for industrial designers and interface engineers, university researchers and teachers, computer scientists, human communication researchers, speech and language technologists, cognitive engineers/cognitive scientists, as well as social and media researchers, and psychologists. Advanced students and researchers in computer science, speech and language technologies, psychology and communication research will find this text of interest.
