As the title reveals, these stories are a collection of some of Mark Twain's more fanciful and eccentric works. They run the gamut from political commentary to our species' need to "be remembered" somehow. Taken as a whole the stories are "whimsical". Taken individually, they speak the truth in different ways.

В книге представлен один из шедевров западноевропейской литературы средних веков – Тристан и Изольда. В основе сюжета – трагическая любовь Изольды, жены корнуоллского короля, к племяннику её мужа Тристану. Эту легенду не раз перелагали французские поэты. Здесь представлен перевод на современный французский язык, выполненный в начале прошлого века известным филологом Жозефом Бедье и считающийся едва ли не самым удачным. Текст снабжён комментариями, в которых поясняются некоторые лексические и грамматические сложности. В конце книги помещён небольшой французско-русский словарь. Издание предназначено для Уровня 4, то есть для продолжающих изучение французского языка верхней ступени.
