This is a story of adventure in the Hindu Kush Mountains, and of a previously untold Military and Naval Intelligence Mission along about 800 miles of the Durand Line in World War II. The American officers passed through the Tribal Areas and the princely states of the North-West Frontier Province, and into Baluchistan. It also provides an insight into the background and daily life of a Naval Intelligence Officer who was stationed in Karachi, India (now Pakistan), in World War II. He was probably the first American official to travel to all of the Provinces that now comprise the country of Pakistan, and he also traveled in India and Ceylon (now Sri Lanka).

Начиная с 2005 года в разных европейских городах проходят ежегодные международные съезды акцентологов ? семинары по балто-славянской акцентологии (IWoBA). Материалы первых шести семинаров уже опубликованы в виде сборников статей. VII международный семинар по балто-славянской акцентологии был проведён 7–10 июля 2011 г. в Российском государственном гуманитарном университете в Москве. Этот семинар был приурочен к 80-му юбилею одного из крупнейших акцентологов современности ? Владимира Антоновича Дыбо. В Москве выступали учёные из Австрии, Литвы, России, Сербии, США, Хорватии и Черногории. Они обсуждали различные вопросы синхронной и диахронной акцентологии балтийских, славянских и других индоевропейских языков. Особое заседание в ходе семинара было посвящено юбиляру: на нём были прочитаны доклады на более широкие темы ? по ностратике, индоевропеистике и сравнительно-историческому языкознанию в целом. В настоящий сборник вошли статьи, основанные на докладах, сделанных в ходе семинара.
