Drawn together across centuries, will their love be strong enough to defeat an ancient curse? Colonel Caleb DeCardian was fighting America's Civil War on the side of the Union when a freak shower of ball lightning transported him to the present, along with rival and former friend, Seth Reilly. Adapting to the 21st century is hard enough for the colonel, but he also has to find Seth, who cursed him to life as a werewolf. The last thing on Caleb's mind is romance. Then fetching Arianna Hart nearly runs him down with her car. He can't deny his attraction to the outspoken schoolteacher, but knows he should forget her. Arianna finds Caleb bewildering, yet intriguing: courtly manners, smoldering sensuality and eyes that glow silver at night? When she sees Civil War photographs featuring a Union officer who looks exactly like Caleb, she begins to understand the man she is falling in love with harbors multiple secrets–some of which threaten the possibility of their happiness. Finding a decent guy who'll commit is hard enough. How can she expect Caleb to forsake his own century to be with her?90,007 Words Получить ссылку |
Palaeoweathering, Palaeosurfaces and Related Continental Deposits (Special Publication 27 of the IAS)
Автор: Medard Thiry
Год издания:
The study of palaeoweathering provides vital clues about past continental environments, the correlation of sedimentary deposits and processes such as the rate and timing of uplift and erosion. This volume (based partly on research presented at IGCP 317 Palaeoweathering Records and Palaeosurfaces) contains contributions that use both geochemical and physical approaches to the study of palaeoweathering problems. The former are particularly relevant to our understanding of past climates and climate change; the latter have applications in the understanding of mass balance between rates of erosion and deposition. Palaeoweathering, Palaeosurfaces and Related Continental Deposits illustrates the multidisciplinary nature of the subject, the diversity of techniques and, above all, the vital contribution the subject makes to the reconstruction of ancient continental environments. This book will be of great value to sedimentologists, soil scientists and geomorphologists. If you are a member of the International Association of Sedimentologists, for purchasing details, please see: http://www.iasnet.org/publications/details.asp?code=SP27
Weathering the Psalms
Автор: Steve A. Wiggins
Год издания:
The weather is all around us all the time. From ancient times people have attributed the weather to the work of the gods. Ancient Israel shared this perception. The book of Psalms reflects theologically significant views on the weather that have not, until now, been fully explored. In this meteorological survey of the Psalms, whimsically called «meteorotheology,» every reference to the weather is translated in accordance with the known climate and weather of ancient Israel. Each verse is discussed with particular attention to the function of the weather in the hymnal of ancient Israel. This book will be a resource for translators, clergy, and scholars with an interest in how the weather impacted religious outlooks in ancient Israel. Readers will learn that some expected associations, such as thunder and lightning, did not influence Israelite views on the natural world in the same way that they do today. Yahweh was God of the weather, and the Psalms frequently use this paradigm as a reason for both praise and fear of the Lord.
Weathering Change
Автор: Thomas J. Linneman
Год издания:
The Pacific Northwest is known for its diverse, unusual politics. There are thriving gay and lesbian communities and populations of staunchly conservative Christians. Both groups wield political power out of proportion to their numbers and yet both feel beleaguered. How do members of these groups—both community leaders and everyday citizens—perceive the political climates that surround them This book tells a tale of two Northwestern cities: Seattle, well known nationally for its liberalism, and Spokane, its conservative cousin to the east. Weathering Change characterizes the ways these liberal and conservative environments translate into hostility and hospitality for the Christian conservatives, gay men, and lesbians who live within them. Linneman gives us a firsthand account of how people from both groups think about social change in relation to the media, the public, the government, their communities, and their opposition. Indeed, we gain much needed insight into why Christian conservatives view the progress of the gay and lesbian movement as such a threat.

Weathering the Storm
Автор: Tracy W. Mehr-Muska
Год издания:
Resilience enables us not only to survive adversity, but to be transformed by it. This book offers simple and proven strategies to develop resilience that will be of enormous benefit to anyone who is yearning to feel more peaceful and prepared. Coast Guard veteran, interfaith chaplain, and pastor Tracy Mehr-Muska shares the stories of her own struggles with self-esteem, sexual assault, and miscarriage that inspired her to research resilience and to enthusiastically reach this conclusion: resilience is not something that is inborn, but instead is a set of characteristics we can cultivate. Mehr-Muska brings these characteristics to life using inspirational secular and multifaith stories, as well as compelling scientific evidence. She ties each chapter together with an uplifting story of a personal friend that bravely and gracefully overcame obstacles and embodies each of these essential characteristics. Weathering the Storm also poses insightful questions for reflection and offers concrete strategies for implementation that can be used individually or in group contexts such as faith communities, families, and therapeutic relationships. Just as we practice fire drills before a fire happens, this book will help us be better equipped for the eventual storms of life so we can live with greater peace and preparedness.
