Скачать книгу - Output Coupling in Optical Cavities and Lasers

Authored by one of the founders and major players in this field of research, this is a thorough and comprehensive approach to the quantum mechanical output coupling theory of lasers – an important area of optical physics that has so far been neglected in the scientific literature. Clearly structured, the various sections cover one-dimensional optical cavity, laser, and microcavity laser with output coupling, atom-field interaction in a free-dimensional space, 3D analysis of spontaneous emission in a planar microcavity with output coupling, plus two-atom spontaneous emission. With numerous end-of-chapter problems, this is vital reading for theoretical physicists, laser specialists, and physicists in industry, as well as students and lecturers in physics.

Colour and the Optical Properties of Materials. An Exploration of the Relationship Between Light, the Optical Properties of Materials and Colour Colour and the Optical Properties of Materials. An Exploration of the Relationship Between Light, the Optical Properties of Materials and Colour

Автор: Richard J. D. Tilley

Год издания:

Colour and the Optical Properties of Materials carefully introduces the science behind the subject, along with many modern and cutting-edge applications, chosen to appeal to today's students. For science students, it provides a broad introduction to the subject and the many applications of colour. To more applied students, such as engineering and arts students, it provides the essential scientific background to colour and the many applications. New to this Edition: The chapter framework of the first edition will be retained, with each chapter being substantially rewritten and some material would be relocated. Some chapters will be rewritten in a clearer fashion, e.g. There have been no significant advances in the understanding of rainbows recently, but the text could be clarified and improved. Colour has been an important attribute of many nano-particle containing systems, such as quantum dots. This aspect will be included, e.g. the colour of gold ruby glass, described in Chapter 5 as part of scattering phenomena now is better treated in terms of gold nanoparticles and surface plasmons. This would probably be transferred to Chapter 10 and considered in tandem with the colour of metals such as copper, silver and gold. A similar state of affairs applies to silver nanoparticles and polychromic glass. Some chapters will include extensive new material, e.g. Chapter 8, colours due to molecular processes [organic LEDs etc], and Chapter 12, Displays, [touch screen technologies]. For all chapters it would be intended to take into account the current scientific literature up to the time of submission – say up to the end of 2009. The end of chapter Further Reading sections would reflect this up-to-date overview. The end of chapter problems will be strengthened and expanded.

Aryl Diazonium Salts. New Coupling Agents and Surface Science Aryl Diazonium Salts. New Coupling Agents and Surface Science

Автор: Mohamed Chehimi Mehdi

Год издания:

Diazonium compounds are employed as a new class of coupling agents to link polymers, biomacromolecules, and other species (e. g. metallic nanoparticles) to the surface of materials. The resulting high performance materials show improved chemical and physical properties and find widespread applications. The advantage of aryl diazonium salts compared to other surface modifiers lies in their ease of preparation, rapid (electro)reduction, large choice of reactive functional groups, and strong aryl-surface covalent bonding. This unique book summarizes the current knowledge of the surface and interface chemistry of aryl diazonium salts. It covers fundamental aspects of diazonium chemistry together with theoretical calculations of surface-molecule bonding, analytical methods used for the characterization of aryl layers, as well as important applications in the field of electrochemistry, nanotechnology, biosensors, polymer coatings and materials science. Furthermore, information on other surface modifiers (amines, silanes, hydrazines, iodonium salts) is included. This collection of 14 self-contained chapters constitutes a valuable book for PhD students, academics and industrial researchers working on this hot topic.
