This first book to discuss both separation chemistry and mass spectrometry for mineral and rock analysis compares the two frequently used techniques, analyzing both their scope and limitations by way of numerous practical examples. The excellent and highly experienced author adopts a comprehensive and systematic approach, reviewing all the steps involved in an analytical workflow. In addition to thermal ionization mass spectrometry (TIMS), he also discusses applications of ICP-MS. Furthermore, alongside detailed protocols on sample preparation and mass spectrometric measurements, numerous practical hints are given. A must-have handy guide for all isotope geochemists and anyone involved in isotope analysis. Получить ссылку |

Foodomics. Advanced Mass Spectrometry in Modern Food Science and Nutrition
Автор: Alejandro Cifuentes
Год издания:
Provides the latest «-omics» tools to advance the study of food and nutrition The rapidly emerging field of foodomics examines food and nutrition by applying advanced «-omics» technologies in order to improve people's health, well-being, and knowledge. Using tools from genomics, transcriptomics, epigenomics, proteomics, and metabolomics, foodomics offers researchers new analytical approaches to solve a myriad of current challenges in food and nutrition science. This book presents the fundamentals of foodomics, exploring the use of advanced mass spectrometry techniques in food science and nutrition in the post-genomic era. The first chapter of the book offers an overview of foodomics principles and applications. Next, the book covers: Modern instruments and methods of proteomics, including the study and characterization of food quality, antioxidant food supplements, and food allergens Advanced mass spectrometry-based methods to study transgenic foods and the microbial metabolome Mass spectrometry-based metabolomics in nutrition and health research Foodomics' impact on our current understanding of micronutrients (phenolic compounds and folates), optimal nutrition, and personalized nutrition and diet related diseases Principles and practices of lipidomics and green foodomics Use of chemometrics in mass spectrometry and foodomics The final chapter of Foodomics explores the potential of systems biology approaches in food and nutrition research. All the chapters conclude with references to the primary literature, enabling readers to explore individual topics in greater depth. With contributions from a team of leading pioneers in foodomics, this book enables students and professionals in food science and nutrition to take advantage of the latest tools to advance their research and open up new areas of food and nutrition investigation.
Equilibrium and Transfer in Porous Media 3. Applications, Isothermal Transport and Coupled Transfers
Автор: Jean-Francois Daian
Год издания:
A porous medium is composed of a solid matrix and its geometrical complement: the pore space. This pore space can be occupied by one or more fluids. The understanding of transport phenomena in porous media is a challenging intellectual task. This book provides a detailed analysis of the aspects required for the understanding of many experimental techniques in the field of porous media transport phenomena. It is aimed at students or engineers who may not be looking specifically to become theoreticians in porous media, but wish to integrate knowledge of porous media with their previous scientific culture, or who may have encountered them when dealing with a technological problem. While avoiding the details of the more mathematical and abstract developments of the theories of acroscopization, the author gives as accurate and rigorous an idea as possible of the methods used to establish the major laws of macroscopic behavior in porous media. He also illustrates the constitutive laws and equations by demonstrating some of their classical applications. Priority is to put forward the constitutive laws in concrete circumstances without going into technical detail. This third volume in the three-volume series focuses on the applications of isothermal transport and coupled transfers in porous media.
Thermal Processing of Foods. Control and Automation
Автор: K. Sandeep P.
Год издания:
The food industry has utilized automated control systems for over a quarter of a century. However, the past decade has seen an increase in the use of more sophisticated software-driven, on-line control systems, especially in thermal processing unit operations. As these software-driven control systems have become more complex, the need to validate their operation has become more important. In addition to validating new control systems, some food companies have undertaken the more difficult task of validating legacy control systems that have been operating for a number of years on retorts or aseptic systems. Thermal Processing: Control and Automation presents an overview of various facets of thermal processing and packaging from industry, academic, and government representatives. The book contains information that will be valuable not only to a person interested in understanding the fundamental aspects of thermal processing (eg graduate students), but also to those involved in designing the processes (eg process specialists based in food manufacturing) and those who are involved in process filing with USDA or FDA. The book focuses on technical aspects, both from a thermal processing standpoint and from an automation and process control standpoint. Coverage includes established technologies such as retorting as well as emerging technologies such as continuous flow microwave processing. The book addresses both the theoretical and applied aspects of thermal processing, concluding with speculations on future trends and directions.
Introducing Proteomics. From Concepts to Sample Separation, Mass Spectrometry and Data Analysis
Автор: Josip Lovric
Год издания:
Introducing Proteomics gives a concise and coherent overview of every aspect of current proteomics technology, which is a rapidly developing field that is having a major impact within the life and medical sciences. This student-friendly book, based on a successful course developed by the author, provides its readers with sufficient theoretical background to be able to plan, prepare, and analyze a proteomics study. The text covers the following: Separation Technologies Analysis of Peptides/Proteins by Mass Spectrometry Strategies in Proteomics This contemporary text also includes numerous examples and explanations for why particular strategies are better than others for certain applications. In addition, Introducing Proteomics includes extensive references and a list of relevant proteomics information sources; essential for any student. This no-nonsense approach to the subject tells students exactly what they need to know, leaving out unnecessary information. The student companion site enhances learning and provides answers to the end of chapter problems. «I think this book will be a popular and valuable resource for students and newcomers to the field who would like to have an overview and initial understanding of what proteomics is about. The contents are well organized and address the major issues.» —Professor Walter Kolch, Director, Systems Biology Ireland & Conway Institute, University College Dublin Companion Website www.wiley.com/go/lovric
