Скачать книгу - Doping in Conjugated Polymers

An A-to-Z of doping including its definition, its importance, methods of measurement, advantages and disadvantages, properties and characteristics—and role in conjugated polymers The versatility of polymer materials is expanding because of the introduction of electro-active behavior into the characteristics of some of them. The most exciting development in this area is related to the discovery of intrinsically conductive polymers or conjugated polymers, which include such examples as polyacetylene, polyaniline, polypyrrole, and polythiophene as well as their derivatives. «Synmet» or «synthetic metal» conjugated polymers, with their metallic characteristics, including conductivity, are of special interest to researchers. An area of limitless potential and application, conjugated polymers have sparked enormous interest, beginning in 2000 when the Nobel Prize for the discovery and development of electrically conducting conjugated polymers was awarded to three scientists: Alan J. Heeger, Alan G. MacDiarmid, and Hideki Shirakawa. Conjugated polymers have a combination of properties—both metallic (conductivity) and polymeric; doping gives the conjugated polymer's semiconducting a wide range of conductivity, from insulating to low conducting. The doping process is a tested effective method for producing conducting polymers as semiconducting material, providing a substitute for inorganic semiconductors. Doping in Conjugated Polymers is the first book dedicated to the subject and offers a comprehensive A-to-Z overview. It details doping interaction, dopant types, doping techniques, and the influence of the dopant on applications. It explains how the performance of doped conjugated polymers is greatly influenced by the nature of the dopants and their level of distribution within the polymer, and shows how the electrochemical, mechanical, and optical properties of the doped conjugated polymers can be tailored by controlling the size and mobility of the dopants counter ions. The book also examines doping at the nanoscale, in particular, with carbon nanotubes. Readership The book will interest a broad range of researchers including chemists, electrochemists, biochemists, experimental and theoretical physicists, electronic and electrical engineers, polymer and materials scientists. It can also be used in both graduate and upper-level undergraduate courses on conjugated polymers and polymer technology.

Self-Healing Polymers. From Principles to Applications Self-Healing Polymers. From Principles to Applications

Автор: Wolfgang Binder H.

Год издания:

Self-healing is a well-known phenomenon in nature: a broken bone merges after some time and if skin is damaged, the wound will stop bleeding and heals again. This concept can be mimicked in order to create polymeric materials with the ability to regenerate after they have suffered degradation or wear. Already realized applications are used in aerospace engineering, and current research in this fascinating field shows how different self-healing mechanisms proven successful by nature can be adapted to produce even more versatile materials. The book combines the knowledge of an international panel of experts in the field and provides the reader with chemical and physical concepts for self-healing polymers, including aspects of biomimetic processes of healing in nature. It shows how to design self-healing polymers and explains the dynamics in these systems. Different self-healing concepts such as encapsulated systems and supramolecular systems are detailed. Chapters on analysis and friction detection in self-healing polymers and on applications round off the book.

Engineered Carbohydrate-Based Materials for Biomedical Applications. Polymers, Surfaces, Dendrimers, Nanoparticles, and Hydrogels Engineered Carbohydrate-Based Materials for Biomedical Applications. Polymers, Surfaces, Dendrimers, Nanoparticles, and Hydrogels

Автор: Ravin Narain

Год издания:

This book addresses the need for a comprehensive book on the design, synthesis, and characterization of synthetic carbohydrate-based polymeric materials along with their biological applications. The first two chapters cover the synthesis and self-assembly of glycopolymers and different techniques for creating these synthetic polymers. Subsequent chapters account for the preparation of block copolymers, branched glycopolymers, glycosurfaces, glycodendrimers, cationic glycopolymers, bioconjugates, glyconanoparticles and hydrogels. While these chapters comprehensively review the synthetic and characterization methods of those carbohydrate-based materials, their biological applications are discussed in detail.

A Concise Introduction to Additives for Thermoplastic Polymers A Concise Introduction to Additives for Thermoplastic Polymers

Автор: Johannes Fink Karl

Год издания:

Describes twenty-one of the most important and commonly used additives A Concise Introduction to Additives for Thermoplastic Polymers focuses on additives for thermoplastic polymers and describes 21 of the most important and commonly used additives from Plasticizers and Fillers to Optical Brighteners and Anti-Microbial additives. It also includes chapters on safety and hazards, and prediction of service time models. While there are many exhaustive and complex books dealing with additives for polymers, the size of them deter students and many industry engineers from using them. The purpose of this book, therefore, is to fill this void and present a concise introduction to this important subject. Written in an accessible and practical style, the author introduces the reader to the complex subject of plastics additives in an engaging manner. His ability to be concise is the result of his teaching courses on the subject and using his own lecture notes for material. This book comprises the author's course notes so that a larger public can benefit from his knowledge. A Concise Introduction to Additives for Thermoplastic Polymers is the ideal primer for students who will later work in polymer science or the development of plastics formulation, as well as industry engineers and specialists who want to have a deeper knowledge of the plastics industry.
