Книга посвящена 90-летию со дня рождения академика Никиты Ильича Толстого (1923–1996), одного из выдающихся представителей славистической науки второй половины XX века. Статьи отечественных и зарубежных авторов тематически связаны с одним направлением деятельности Н. И. Толстого, а именно со славянской этнолингвистикой – дисциплиной, созданной им в 70-е годы и изучающей язык и традиционную духовную культуру в их неразрывной связи. Сборник состоит из четырех разделов. В первом рассматриваются традиционные представления, относящиеся к народной космологии и демонологии, народной ботанике, а также семантика и символика календарных и семейных обрядов, бытовых практик, предметов одежды и др. Во второй раздел включены статьи по мифологии и фольклору, по истории, структуре и символике отдельных текстов и жанров (заговоров, легенд, погребальных плачей). Третий раздел объединяет статьи о семантике и культурных функциях лексики (соматической, мифологической, бытовой) и обрядовой терминологии (свадебной, календарной). В четвертом разделе публикуются выдержки из полевых полесских записей Н. И. Толстого и часть его переписки со славистами разных стран. Сборник адресован как специалистам, так и широкому кругу читателей, интересующихся традиционной духовной культурой славянских народов.
